Changes to my study program
Hello everybody!
Today I’m going to talk about changes to my study
program
Well, I’m studying sociology at University of
Chile. When I started the career we had a different study program than people
who started this year. This is because the career has had a process of discussion
and reflection about the profile of graduation and the study program. The result of this process is the new study program
at 2016. When I saw it I was agree with it, because the previous program had
many problems and it was too incoherence. Although this change, I think that are
necessary more subjects about statistics and more practical subjects. The
previous study program neither had these characteristics, but I believe are
very important, because many jobs in sociology need this kind of knowledge and
we are week in this area.
In addition, I think that the environmental
social problems are not considered as they should, because the study program doesn’t
have an obligatory subject relate with this problem. In the career this kind of
topics are only in one elective subject. The same applies to gender problems
and migration problems. The consequence is those students who leave university don’t
have the minimal knowledge in these important areas, because they are electives
subjects.
The good part of the new program: there is more
coherence between the different subjects, something wouldn’t happen before. Besides
this, the career is shorter than before (with the previous program). About the
workload and length of studies, I think is good, is not a very difficult career
in this aspect, we have time to do other things.
Now, the aspects related with use of technology
and teaching methods, I think university of Chile in general is too bad. We don’t
have enough computers to all the students and the software which are important
to subjects as statistics are very old and in many times there are not working.
The teaching methods are good for me, but always are the similar.
That’s all for today
Thanks for reading!

Hi! I´ve heard about the need of some knowledge in statistics for work. It´s really bad that the university don´t see the importance it has and I can see that in the old programs that university has. I´ve also taken courses in statistics and the programs don´t work very well.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think that inmigration, gender and environmental problems are a very sensitive issues so they should be taken into account. It´s really sad that the university don´t teach these matters to all its students.
